Yeo Valley Organic Garden to support Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival

YEO Valley Organic Garden in Blagdon will open its gates for the first time this year in February to support the Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival.

The garden will be open for the festival from Thursday, February 24 until Sunday, February 27 from 10am until 4pm ahead of its full re-opening for the new season in April.

The Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival is organised by a not-for-profit community group, Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Project.

The festival will feature gardening, walks, workshops, specialist nurseries, and art.

Visitors will be able to enjoy looking at snowdrops throughout the meadows and explore the garden that inspired the Yeo Valley Organic show garden at last year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Yeo Valley’s show garden was created by Tom Mallet, an award-winning designer, and Sarah Mead, head gardener at Yeo Valley Organic Garden.

The garden won an RHS Gold Medal and the BBC and RHS People’s Choice Award.

The steam-bent oak ‘egg’ hide designed and handcrafted by Tom Raffield will also be on show in the Yeo Valley Garden for the snowdrop festival.

All entrance fees will be donated to Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Project.

Head gardener Sarah Mead said: “We’ve planted swathes of ‘drops through the meadows and woodland over the past five years, providing the perfect opportunity to showcase them for this festival.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming everybody for the 2022 season.”

All tickets must be booked in advance.

Admission is £6, except for RHS members who have free entry but still need to pre-book a free entry ticket online.

The garden will also be open on March 26 to host the Hardy Plant Society Somerset Group Plant Fair, which will include 12 nurseries and other stalls, allowing people to see the garden out of season and purchase new plants.

The tearoom will be open for both events to keep visitors refreshed, with the opportunity to buy Yeo Valley Organic dairy products and other produce in the garden shop.
